CHAPTER 11

The next three weeks were shit. I slept and ate little, Landon left me alone for the most part, but he sent messages through Melanie, and I tried not to snap at her because she was stressed, but I didn’t want to be badgered.

My parents wanted me to come home since I could take the train to the city for work, but I decided against it for the time being. My mother would just nag me, and that was the last thing I wanted right now. Randy came to the city to hang out with me on the weekends and hit it off with Smyth and Pedro so well that she invited them to her wedding.

Today was Wednesday, and I was preparing to fly to California tomorrow. Melanie’s wedding was this upcoming Saturday, and she was already out there with Tyler checking last-minute arrangements.

“All packed?” Smyth asked as he came in and sat on my bed.

“Yes. I have everything.”

“Are you sure?” he asked.

“Yes. I put everything in my suitcase.”

“Do you have your dress and shoes?”

I was about to answer affirmatively, but a second later, my mouth dropped open. I had put my dress in a garment bag in the closet with my shoes after moving things from my apartment.

I banged my forehead with the heel of my hand. “Shit. Thanks for reminding me. I’ve been a scatterbrain lately.”

“Understandable since you have so much going on.”

I hugged him and then went to the closet to retrieve both. Smyth helped me rearrange my suitcase, so I could fit everything since I didn’t want to take another bag. He held up the green bikini I had included.

“You’re going to the beach?” he asked curiously.

“I’d love to, but if anything, I can swim in the hotel pool.”

His brow rose. “Is a certain someone going to be at the same hotel?”

“Landon? Of course.”

He smirked. “Not Landon. Troy.”

“I have no clue. He lives in Hollywood. He doesn’t need to stay at the hotel.”

“Does he know you’re single now?” Smyth asked coyly.

I nodded. “I imagine he does. I’m sure Tyler told him, but that doesn’t mean anything. I can’t get involved with him or Landon again.”

Smyth continued questioning me, trying to get the answer he wanted.

“You’re not interested in Troy?”

“I love Troy, but like Landon, he disappointed me,” I said.

“You love Troy, or are you in love with him?” he questioned.

I held my hand up. “Smyth, stop. I don’t want to discuss this. I have enough on my mind.”

“I’ll lay off, but I want all the details when you come home. Pedro wants to get sushi tonight. Do you want that or something else?”

I wrinkled my nose because I hated raw fish. “I’ll eat a California roll and some tempura if they have it.”

“California roll?” he teased as he laughed.

“Very funny.”

He got up from the bed and continued to chuckle as he left the room. I didn’t know why I bothered to ask them to order me anything, to begin with. As per usual, I wasn’t hungry.
